NU7 Vote Results Are In
The NU7 coinholder poll and ZCAP poll both closed September 14. Participation hit a record: 2.4M ZEC voted out of 3.6M in the Ironwood pool — 66%. The outcomes:
- Q1 — Issuance: Preserve halvings (coinholders 98.9%). ZCAP was nearly split: 57 smooth vs. 54 preserve.
- Q2 — NSM Reissuance: February 2031 (coinholders 96.6%). ZCAP and panels voted ASAP. This was the biggest divergence.
- Q3 — Sprout: Disable v4 transactions immediately at NU7.
- Q4 — Block Times: Yes to 25-second blocks (ZIP-218).
- Q5 — Scope: Ship NU7 by September 30, dropping any feature not ready.
The Q2 divergence prompted discussion — coinholders overwhelmingly chose 2031 while panels voted for immediate reissuance. Shielded Labs, Tachyon, ZODL, ZF, and Valar Group have aligned on February 2031 as the most conservative interpretation, noting they can revisit with another poll if circumstances change. Forum discussion also noted that subtracting 2.3M ZEC from the winning side would only flip Q2 and Q3 — raising familiar questions about whale influence in coinholder voting.
